on an E-bike…
At Wood2water we also rent out electric bikes. They are a great way to spend some time exploring this historic town and everything it has to offer. And having a battery powered bike with you, will make it a lot easier to tackle some of the surrounding hills!
Russell is pretty small, so an hours ride will give you plenty of time to do a quick tour. Ride along the waterfront and main sights, then over to Long Beach, a beautiful sandy beach on the other side of the peninsula, where you can get a coffee from Carl’s coffee cart.

If you have a bit more time, you could consider having a go at Flagstaff Hill. A pretty steep ride - and a bit of a challenge - but so worth it, leading you to both a significant historical place and the highest point for a stunning 360 degrees view of the Bay of Islands. From there on you could continue cycling all the way to Tapeka Point. On a warm sunny day, we recommend you to bring your ‘togs’ for a refreshing swim either at Long Beach or Tapeka Point.
Our electric bikes are also available for longer rentals, half and full days, to explore the Twin Coast Cycle Trail. Just get in touch with us to discuss the possibilities.
The bikes our Giant electric mountain bikes, and we have 8 available in 3 frame sizes - small, medium and large. We will also provide you with a Russell map, bike lock and a bike helmet for your safety.
